Razorbacks Fall To Miami In College World Series

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Arkansas baseball team (40-25) saw its remarkable season come to an end Monday evening, falling 4-3 to Miami (50-16) at TD Ameritrade Park in the College World Series.

Arkansas went from a 15-15 record on April 4, to making its eighth appearance in the College World Series, marking one of the best turnarounds in program history.

The Razorbacks faced deficits of 2-0 and 3-2, but rallied back both times to tie the game thanks to a Bobby Wernes RBI single in the eighth inning to send Tyler Spoon racing home to knot the score 3-3.

The Hurricanes would use a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth, before a walk-off single handed Miami a 4-3 victory. Rick Nomura led Arkansas at the plate with three hits and a walk, including a sixth-inning single to plate the Razorbacks’ first run of the game.

Freshman right-hander Keaton McKinney was gutsy on the mound, battling through an injury to toss 4.1 innings and give up just two hits and one earned run. It marks the eighth time this season McKinney has thrown four-plus innings and allowed one earned run or less.

Clark Eagan added his 18th multiple-hit game of the season, singling twice and scoring run, while Brett McAfee added a hit, including an RBI single to tie the game in the seventh inning.

Andrew Benintendi ends his remarkable season with a .371 batting average and a nation-leading 20 home runs. He became the first SEC and National Player of the Year in program history and is in line to become the third player in SEC history to lead the conference in home runs and batting average.

The Razorbacks finished the 2015 season winning 40 games for the sixth time in the past seven years. Arkansas reached the College World Series for the first time since 2012 and the fourth time since 2004.
