Lasting Legacy
It has been more than 25 years since Arkansas last competed as a member of the Southwest Conference (SWC), but the memories still remain fresh in the minds of Razorback fans. Legendary games, performances, athletes and coaches all helped to define what truly one of the nation’s elite conferences was.
The University of Arkansas was a charter member of the SWC in 1914 and competed against league schools until 1991, when it moved to the Southeastern Conference. The SWC continued five more years before the league was discontinued in 1996.
Although the SWC no longer exists, its legacy lives on in the form of the SWC Hall of Fame. Formed in 2013, the SWC Hall of Fame honors former conference legends in all sports. Located in a special exhibit hall in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco, Texas, the SWC Hall of Fame recognizes former Razorbacks and others who helped define the SWC.
