LSU Invitational offers next challenge for No. 4 Arkansas

BATON ROUGE – No. 4 Arkansas competes at the LSU Invitational on Saturday, May 3, among a field of 10 teams, six of which are currently ranked among the top 25 nationally.

No. 1 Georgia headlines the field at LSU, followed by No. 8 Florida, No. 18 LSU, No. 24 Tennessee, and No. 25 Auburn. Additional teams include Alabama, Miami, Minnesota, and Ole Miss.

“It’s going to a be a good meet, and all our girls in the sprints and jumps are competing in their primary event,” noted Arkansas women’s assistant Taylor Washington. “We’re not doubling many people, so we’re looking to show out.

“We’re excited to see Rachel Glenn in the high jump as well. So, we’re definitely ready to perform at a high level.”

Running events begin at 12:15 p.m. while the first field event involving the Razorbacks start at 1:30 p.m. with the long jump.

Among a field of 16, which includes World Indoor champion Claure Bryant, Arkansas will have a pair of long jumpers with Funminiyi Olajide and Shania Myers.

The Razorbacks will have a heavy presence in the 400m with 12 sprinters entered. The first section includes Rosey Effiong, Kaylyn Brown, Sanaria Butler, and Joanne Reid.

Arkansas ranks No. 1 in national event rankings for the 400m where the four-person average is 51.42 for the Razorbacks, who rank ahead of Georgia (51.57), Tennessee (51.80), Duke (52.50), and Texas A&M (52.63).

Competing in the first of two sections in the 800m are Sanu Jallow-Lockhart, Anna Podojil, and Analisse Batista. The second section includes Razorbacks Lanie Meeks, Madeleine Gear, and Sorcha Shiu.

The 800m crew ranks No. 4 in event rankings with a 2:04.31 average. Washington leads the event with a 2:02.39 average, followed by Clemson (2:03.05) and Oregon (2:03.18). Arkansas ranks ahead of Stanford (2:04.34), Yale (2:05.34), and BYU (2:05.44).

Rachel Glenn and Saira Prince will be in the first of three sections of the 400m hurdles as they compete against professional Anna Cockrell. Simone Ballard and Myers race in adjacent lanes for the 100m hurdles as they contest the second of three sections.

Arkansas distance runners will race over 1,500m for some speed work this weekend as Sydney Thorvaldson, Olivia Pielemeier, and Mackenzie Rogers race in the first section of the final while Bradley Weimer is in section two.

Glenn and Sydney Billington are in the high jump while Rachel Homoly is the lone Razorback among a field of 15 in the pole vault.
