Mayfield Paces @RazorbackSD on Day One of NCAAs

GREENSBORO, N.C. – A record-setting performance from junior Anna Mayfield paced Arkansas women’s swimming and diving on the first day the 2015 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, Thursday.

After swimming in both the 200 freestyle relay and 500 freestyle, Mayfield returned to the pool to lead-off the Razorbacks’ 400 medley relay. The San Antonio, Texas registered a 100 backstroke split of 53.33, besting her own record of 53.61.

Arkansas opened the competition with the 200 free relay where the team of senior Susanna White, juniors Nina Drolc, Maddie Monroe and Mayfield clocked a time of 1:30.19, good for 28th place.

Mayfield then took to the pool again in the 500 free where she logged a 23rd-place finish with a time of 4:42.54. Freshman Chelsea Tatlow then made her collegiate debut at the NCAAs in the 200 IM where she swam to a 54th-place finish (1:59.88).

Arkansas concluded the first day of action with the 400 medley relay where Mayfield posted her record-setting lead-off leg, followed by senior Nikki Daniels, White and Monroe. The quartet touched the wall 28th with a time of 3:36.43.

Day two of competition continues Friday morning with the 400 IM (Tatlow), 200 freestyle (Mayfield, Monroe) and 100 breast (Daniels) prelims. The Razorbacks will then close day two of NCAAs in the 800 free relay finals. The 800 free relay team of Mayfield, Monroe, junior Rachel Stoehr and Tatlow will look to best the program record they set at the 2015 SEC Championships. The time of 7:05.96 was an NCAA ‘A’ cut time, the third ‘A’ cut relay time in school history.
