McKinney Earns SEC Pitcher of the Week Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A day after throwing a complete-game two-hit shutout to cap a series sweep over Alabama, Arkansas right-handed pitcher Keaton McKinney has earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors the league office announced on Monday.

The true freshman continues to dazzle on the mound, recording his fourth career victory Sunday afternoon in his best collegiate performance. He is tied for the SEC lead with two complete games on the year and is the only freshman to record a complete game this season.

McKinney set down the first eight Alabama hitters in the game and faced one over the minimum through the first four innings. McKinney worked perfect 1-2-3 frames in six of the nine innings and needed just 100 pitches to shutout the Crimson Tide. He became the first Arkansas pitcher to throw a complete-game shutout since Brett Eibner blanked No. 1 Georgia back in 2009.

Arkansas picks up SEC Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time since Jalen Beeks and Chris Oliver won Co-SEC Pitcher of the Week honors during the 2014 season.

The Razorbacks continue to be one of the hottest teams in the country, winning 10 of the last 12 games, 18 of 24 contests and six consecutive SEC series. Arkansas is currently the No. 5 seed in the SEC Tournament with two weeks to play.

Arkansas returns to action next weekend, welcoming Tennessee to town for a three-game series at Baum Stadium. For a full rundown of promotion click here and to purchase tickets click here.
