Nastassja Campbell garners first-team Academic All-District honor
Razorback Nastassja Campbell earned first-team honors on the 2020-21 Academic All-District Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country team, selected by CoSIDA, which recognizes student-athletes for their combined performances in the competition realm and in the classroom.
As a first-team Academic All-District honoree, Campbell advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-August.
Majoring in communication, Campbell was one of 11 selections among District 6 and was also one of six named in the district to have a 4.0 grade point average. States represented in District 6 include Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
During her initial season competing for the Razorbacks in the pole vault, Campbell was the lone collegian to reach the Olympic Trials final where a clearance of 14-9 placed her sixth.
Campbell opened her outdoor campaign with a 14-9 ½ career best victory in the Texas Relays in late March, which served as the outdoor collegiate leading mark for a majority of the season. Three consecutive runner-up finishes to teammate Lauren Martinez followed.
At the SEC Outdoor Championships, Campbell improved her career best to 14-10 ¾ to secure the title over NCAA Indoor champion Lisa Gunnarsson of LSU, who also earned first-team Academic All-District honors in District 6, and Martinez who tied for second place at 14-8 ¾.
The 14-10 ¾ height for Campbell moved her to No. 5 on the Arkansas all-time list behind a quartet of national champion vaulters – Sandi Morris (15-5 ¾), Lexi Jacobus (15-5), Tina Sutej (15-1 ½), and Tori Hoggard (14-11 ½).
Indoors, Campbell vaulted 14-3 ¼ in placing fourth at the SEC Indoor Championships. It was the fifth time during the indoor campaign she vaulted over 14 feet. Campbell earned second-team All-America honors placing ninth at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
On the Arkansas indoor all-time list, the 14-3 ¼ height for Campbell ties her with April Steiner at No. 9.
