
No. 1 Arkansas totals leading 17 entries for NCAA Indoor
FAYETTEVILLE – No. 1 Arkansas, the defending national indoor champions, will have a leading 17 entries in the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships next week as they contest nine events at the New Balance facility on March 7-9.
The Razorbacks remain in the No. 1 position for the fifth consecutive week under first year head coach Chris Johnson following a decisive team victory in the SEC Indoor Championships as Arkansas claimed a 10th consecutive team title by 51 points over Florida.
Following the Razorbacks in the national ratings among the top 10 teams are Florida, Texas, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Ole Miss, USC, Washington, Texas Tech, and LSU.
Texas, the 2023 NCAA Indoor runner-up to Arkansas, follows with 11 entries in eight events, while BYU and Oregon have 10 entries each. Four schools with nine entries each include Florida, Illinois, and Oklahoma State.
Sprint depth among the Razorback squad is evident with five entries in the 400m and four entries in the 200m. Amber Anning leads the collegians this season in the 400m with a 50.43 victory at SEC Indoor, which ranks fourth best in the world.
Four of the five entries in the 400m for the Hogs rank 1-2-3-4 following the sweep they produced at SEC Indoor, scoring 31 points off a 1-2-3-4-7 finish.
A pair of Arkansas sprinters have the top times by a freshman in a pair of events. Shawnti Jackson is ranked 10th overall in the 60m with a 7.18 and is the lone freshman in the field. In the 200m, Jackson is second among freshman with a 22.77 that ranks eighth overall.
Kaylyn Brown is the top freshman in the 400m and ranks equal second overall with a 50.83 that earned her a bronze medal in the SEC Indoor. She closed out the meet with a 50.49 anchor leg split on a 3:26.33 silver medal relay. She is the only freshman in the 400m NCAA field.
This marks the fifth consecutive year for Arkansas to qualify in both relay events. Oregon is the only other school entered in the 4 x 400m and distance medley relays.
The Razorbacks produced four of the top seven 4 x 400m relay performances this season with different line-ups and carry a world-leading 3:25.59 into the NCAA Indoor.
