No. 4 Razorbacks finish runner-up in SEC Indoor battle
COLLEGE STATION – No. 4 Arkansas battled to the end of the SEC Indoor Championships and placed second with 73 points behind 77 for Florida. It’s the first time since 2014 that another team other than the Razorbacks claimed the conference indoor title.
Arkansas totaled seven medals in the meet, three gold, one silver, and three bronze. The Razorbacks produced a gold-silver combo in the 800m with Analisse Batista and Sanu Jallow-Lockhart while totaling 25 points from four finalists in the event.
Batista charged down the homestretch of the 800m to pass Jallow-Lockhart and claim victory in a career best of 2:01.10, which ranks No. 2 on the UA all-time list, with Jallow-Lockhart runner-up in 2:01.12. Makenna Herbst (2:05.24) and Ainsley Erzen (2:06.67) placed fourth and seventh, respectively, to complete the scoring bonanza for the Razorbacks.
After winning the 5,000m on Thursday, Sydney Vaught placed third in the 3,000m with a time of 8:51.97. Her 16 points in the meet tied her with two others for the Cliff Harper trophy as the high point scorers in the meet.
Closing out the meet with the 4 x 400m relay, Arkansas edged out South Carolina and Georgia by hundredths of a second.
Sanaria Butler moved from third to first on the anchor leg, splitting 51.00, as the Razorbacks finished in 3:26.81 with South Carolina runner-up at 3:26.85, 51.08 anchor by Zaya Akins, and Georgia third at 3:26.88, 51.26 anchor by Shaquena Foote.
The first three legs for Arkansas included Kaylyn Brown (52.58), who placed fifth in the 400m, Batista (51.14), and Jallow-Lockhart (52.09). The time by the Razorbacks ranks No. 8 on the UA all-time list.
Finishing behind the Gators and Razorbacks in team scoring were Georgia (68), Kentucky (63), South Carolina (60), Alabama (58), Texas A&M (51), Ole Miss (38.5), Tennessee (34), Auburn (33), Texas (30), and LSU (23).
