Pompey Named SEC Player of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – TJ Pompey has been named SEC Player of the Week after powering Arkansas to a series sweep of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., racking up a pair of multi-hit games while driving in a team-high six RBI on the weekend.
The Razorback third baseman, who also scored a team-leading four runs and added a stolen base, recorded at least one hit in all three games of the series sweep against the Crimson Tide, punctuating his breakout weekend with a two-run home run in Arkansas’ series-opening win on April 10 and a three-run home run in the series-clinching win on April 11.
For the season, Pompey is slashing .267/.345/.543 with eight home runs, third most on the Hogs, and 21 RBI through 33 games. His SEC numbers are even better, slashing .333/.366/.744 with a team-high four homers and 10 RBI in 13 games.
Pompey is the second Razorback to earn a weekly honor from the conference this season. Colin Fisher was named SEC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 23 after firing an eight-inning complete-game one-hit shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts and no walks against Xavier on Feb. 22 to lead Arkansas to a home opening weekend series sweep.
