“I’m feeling pretty good where we’re at right now, but there is still a lot of work to do,” said Arkansas women’s head coach Chris Johnson. “The jumpers and short sprinters will be here at home this weekend and the longer sprinters in the 200-400-800 will be in College Station. It’s going to be good competition at both sites.”
A field of 20 teams are entered in the Arkansas Spring Invitational. They include Barton County, Central Arkansas, Friends (Ks), Indian Hills (Ia), Kansas City, Little Rock, Missouri State, Murray State, Northwest Arkansas, Northwest Missouri, Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Pittsburg State, Rogers State, Southwest Baptist, Tulsa, and Wichita State.
Featured teams among a field of 29 programs at Texas A&M include Cincinnati, Houston, Michigan State, New Mexico, Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M, UTSA, and Vanderbilt.
“I’d like to see a level of consistency,” noted Johnson. “That’s the main thing. I want to see them compete against different competition to kind of see where we’re at. I’d like to see our 200m times improve as well as 400m times improve.
“The 4 x 400m relay is what it is, so we’ll try to mix it up and maybe not run the same relay so we can look at some different options for the postseason.”
Scheduled to race in the 200m on Friday at Texas A&M are Abigail Campbell, Amirah Sharpe, Kaylyn Brown, Sanaria Butler, and Arianna Sharpe. Arkansas alums in the final section of the 200m include Rosey Effiong, Nickisha Pryce, and Bitton Wilson.
The 400m on Saturday in College Station incudes Analisse Batista, Sanu Jallow-Lockhart, and Arianna Sharpe in the final section along with alums Paris Peoples and Shafiqua Maloney.
In the Arkansas Spring Invitational, the 100m hurdles feature Razorbacks Simone Ballard, Saira Prince, and Gabriella Cunningham. In the 100m and 200m, Arkansas is represented by Asia Thomas, Ryan Jennings, Taejha Badal, and Breagan Blowers. Competing in the 400m hurdles are Morgan Herbst, Rae-Anne Serville, and Prince.
