Razorbacks Finish Day One at Zone Diving, Two Punch NCAA Tickets

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Two Arkansas divers punched their ticket to Atlanta on Monday as the Hogs kicked off the first day of the Zone Diving Championships in College Station, Texas.

Arkansas will be competing in Zone D alongside 20 other programs including Houston, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, LSU, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Texas, Northern Iowa, Rice, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Tulane, UN-Omaha, UT-Rio Grande Valley, UW-Milwaukee and Wisconsin.

Competition commenced Monday afternoon with 1-meter diving preliminaries, and finals following directly after. The Razorbacks had seven total divers compete in the event (Bryze Sanchez, Kanah Pumphrey, Lauren French, Lotti Hubert, Maizie Sanchez, Majo Sanchez, and Malea Martinez).

The Hogs competed well in preliminaries, having five top 25 finishers and three top 18 (finals qualifiers) in Lotti Hubert, Majo Sanchez, and Malea Martinez. Martinez would place 15th with a score of 268.90, Sanchez in 5th with a 291.25, and Hubert in 3rd with a 298.05.

Lotti and Majo continued building off their medal-worthy performances at SECs, and both qualified for NCAA Championships in the 1-meter finals. Sanchez would finish 9th overall with a score of 577.55, and Hubert in 5th scoring a 589.10. Martinez would just miss the cut coming in 14th with a total score of 551.15.

“Today was a great day qualifying two Razorbacks to the NCAA Championships,” head diving coach Abel Sanchez said. “Majo and Lotti did a fantastic job and competed steadily. The competition was fierce. Malea also made finals and missed punching her ticket to the dance by 3 points. Bryze and Lauren missed finals merely points. Today was a good showing for us which should help with confidence leading to tomorrow’s 3m competition.”

The Razorbacks compete tomorrow on 3-meter diving, with preliminary action starting at noon. For those following at home, action can be streamed on ESPN+.
