Razorbacks host Twilight meet as final preparation for conference

FAYETTEVILLE – No. 2 Razorbacks host the Arkansas Twilight on Friday, May 3, at John McDonnell field with 24 school represented among the field.

In addition to Arkansas, visiting schools include Abilene Christian, Ave Maria, Central Arkansas, Creighton, Crowder, Florida International, Hill (Tx), Jacksonville (Tx), John Brown (Ar), Kansas, Little Rock, Missouri State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Rice, Southeast Missouri, Texas A&M-Commerce, ULM, and UT Dallas.

Arkansas seniors will be recognized starting at 4:25 p.m. and the winner of the trip to Paris will be announced at 4:57 p.m. Field events start at 10:45 a.m. while running events begin at 5 p.m.

The meet serves as a final tune-up before various conference meets start next week. The Razorbacks will also use the meet as a final selection process for making the Arkansas squad that competes in the SEC Championships next week in Gainesville, Florida.

Destiny Huven is scheduled to make her initial outdoor appearance as a Razorback in the 100m and 100m hurdles. Huven’s last meet had her placing fourth in the 60m hurdles with a career best 7.99 at the NCAA Indoor Championships, supplying five points to the team title Arkansas claimed.

Professionals racing in the same 100m hurdle heat with Huven include Anna Cockrell, who produced a US leading 54.74 in the 400m hurdles last week, Gabrielle Cunningham, Andrenette Knight, and Gianna Woodruff.

Tara Davis-Woodhall is featured among a field of 16 in the long jump. Last year in this meet she set a facility and meet record of 23-2.5 (7.07).

The 1,500m field will include a Razorback crew of Mia Cochran, Chachi Gonzales, Heidi Nielson, Mackenzie Rogers, Laura Taborda, and Sydney Thorvaldson. Mary Ellen Eudaly and Tiana LoStracco race in separate heats of the 800m.

Racing in the third section of the 1,500m with Cochran, Nielson, Taborda, and Thorvaldson are Razorback alum Logan Jolly and Oklahoma State’s Taylor Roe.

Among 12 pole vaulters are an Arkansas foursome of Lauren Carpenter, Bailee Wooten, Rachel Homoly, and Hannah Estes.

Arkansas alum Shafiqua Maloney races at the 400m distance again this week in a heat that includes Brittany Brown and Kendall Baisden. Alum Ackera Nugent competes in the 200m.
