Razorbacks register five wins at Arkansas Spring Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE – The Razorbacks sped to some fast windy times in sprint events at the Arkansas Spring Invitational held Saturday at John McDonnell Field.

Amber Anning led a crew of seven Razorbacks in the 200m with a time of 22.47w that was assisted with an extreme aiding wind of 7.3 mps. Meanwhile, Ariane Linton claimed the 100m in 11.13w with a 4.4 aiding wind.

Those were two of five victories by Arkansas in its first outdoor home meet of the season.

The time by Anning ranks her as the No. 8 performer on the British all-time list under all conditions. Anning also produced the fourth fastest outdoor performance on the 2024 world list under all conditions.

Placing 2-3-4 behind Anning in the 200m were Kaylyn Brown (22.76w), Nickisha Pryce (22.92w), and Rosey Effiong (23.05w). Finishing sixth and seventh in the race were Linton (23.35w) and Joanne Reid (23.66w).

Arkansas alum Ackera Nugent won another section of the 200m in 23.25w (2.6 wind) with Razorback Ashanti Denton runner-up in 23.74w. Earlier in the meet Nugent claimed the 100m hurdles in 13.15w (3.2).

Finishing by Linton in the 100m were Effiong (11.32w), Reid (11.44w), Denton (11.58w) and Nia Robinson (11.66w) as they placed 2-3-5-8.

After claiming a pole vault victory in San Marcos, Texas, a week ago, Arkansas freshman Hannah Estes registered a second win with a 13-2.25 (4.02) clearance.

Rachel Holomy finished third at 12-8.25 (3.87) with Marin Chamberlin fourth at the same height. Bailee Wooten place fifth with a 12-0.5 (3.67) clearance as Lauren Carpenter finished seventh at 11-4.5 (3.47).

Sydney Billington cleared 5-9.25 (1.76) to win the high jump as she made her first three bars on first attempts. Oklahoma State’s Saara Hakanen made the same height as Billington, but needed two attempts on the deciding height.

Tianna LoStracco won the Invitational 800m in 2:07.57 with teammates Mary Ellen Eudaly (2:09.58) and Mia Cochran (2:10.18) completing the 1-2-3 sweep for Arkansas. Chachi Gonazales clocked 2:10.81 for fifth place.

Laura Taborda clocked 4:24.35 in the Invitational 1,500m to place second to a 4:21.71 by Yazmine Wright. Arkansas alum Claire McCune finished third in 4:26.97 while Razorback Ainsley Erzen set a career best of 4:27.60 in fourth place.

Arkansas alum Paris Peoples produced a winning time of 52.90 in the 400m with Aaliyah Pyatt runner-up in 53.55. Analisse Batista won another section in 55.55 to finish fifth overall.

Miramar Invitational

Arkansas alums registered three victories at the Miramar Invitational held in Miramar, Florida on Saturday.

Shafiqua Maloney of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines produced a national record in the 600m with a convincing victory of 1:23.80. The time makes Maloney the No. 9 performer on the world outdoor all-time list and is the 2024 world leader.

Finishing four seconds behind Maloney were a pair of Americans in Sadi Henderson (1:27.81) and Ajee Wilson (1:27.86).

Britton Wilson won the 400m in 51.07 with training partner Shamier Little runner-up in 51.41. Wilson’s effort is the current U.S. outdoor leader and No. 3 in the world for 2024.

Taliyah Brooks claimed the long jump with a sixth round leap of 20-11.25 (6.38) into a -2.5 wind. That moved her ahead of Jamaica’s Chanice Porter, who previously led the competition with a 20-10.5 (6.36) mark.

In the 100m, Razorback alums Jada Baylark (11.40) and Kiara Parker (11.42) finished fourth and fifth into a headwind of 0.9. Cindy Sember placed second in the 100m hurdles with a 12.83 (-1.3 wind) that ranks No. 5 on the 2024 world list.
