Rosey Effiong collects silver & bronze on NCAA final day

EUGENE – Arkansas finished eighth in team scoring with 26 points at the NCAA Championships as the Razorbacks claimed silver in the 4 x 400m relay and Rosey Effiong was a bronze medalist in the 400m.

Georgia won the national championship with 73 points over USC (47) and Texas A&M (43). Washington (31) finished fourth while Illinois (29) and Stanford (29) tied for fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were South Carolina (28), Arkansas (26), New Mexico, Oregon (23) and Texas (23).

The Razorbacks, who won the 4 x 400m relay the past two years, posted a time of 3:24.25 as runner-up behind Georgia’s 3:23.62. The effort by Arkansas ranks No. 7 on the UA all-time list. The top five teams included USC (3:26.01), Texas A&M (3:27.11), and Duke (3:27.40).

Razorbacks running on the relay included Sanaria Butler (52.68), Kayla Davis (50.88), Sanu Jallow-Lockhart (51.53), and Effiong (49.16). Effiong has run on 10 of the 12 fastest outdoor relays produced by Arkansas, including the collegiate record of 3:17.96 set last year.

Effiong produced a time of 51.51 as the bronze medalist in the 400m behind a pair of Georgia sprinters. Kaylyn Brown added four points to the Razorback team score in placing fifth in 51.30.

Georgia’s Aaliyah Butler won the 400m in 49.26 while her teammate Deanna Oakley finished second in 49.65. Butler later split 48.79 on the anchor leg of the Bulldogs 4 x 400m relay.

Paityn Noe earned a second All-America honor in this meet as she placed sixth in the 5,000m with a time of 15:35.39. Third through sixth place was separated by less than a second.
