Sanu Jallow-Lockhart second fastest collegian ever in 600m
FAYETTEVILLE – An enticing 600m Invitational provided all-time marks for the top five finishers as Razorback Sanu Jallow-Lockhart produced the second fastest time in collegiate history with a runner-up performance of 1 minute, 25.37 seconds on Friday.
The showcase event of the Arkansas Invitational at Randel Tyson Track Center was won by alum Shafiqua Maloney as she improved her St. Vincent and the Grenadines national record to 1:24.60, which ranks as the No. 9 performer and No. 10 performance on the all-time world list. Maloney also bettered the meet and facility record of 1;24.65 set by Shamier Little in 2023.
Jallow-Lockhart, who also set a national record for The Gambia, improved her previous best of 1:26.52 set a year ago in moving to No. 2 performer and performance among collegians in the event. She only trails the collegiate record of 1:25.16 set by Razorback Britton Wilson in 2023 and moved ahead of a 1:25.80 set by Texas A&M’s Athing Mu in 2021.
Rosey Effiong, who has outdoor eligibility remaining with the Razorbacks, finished third in 1:26.08. That mark ranks as the No. 10 performer on the American all-time list. In fourth place Arkansas alum Amber Anning clocked 1:26.60 to rank as the No. 5 performer on the British all-time list.
Anna Podojil, making an Arkansas track debut after her Razorback soccer career, posted a time of 1:26.95 in fifth place. Podojil’s time ranks as the No. 7 performer and No. 9 performance on the collegiate all-time list.
In another section of the 600m, Razorback Analisse Batista set a career best of 1:29.20 as runner-up to professional Anna Cockrell, who won the section in 1:29.07. Arkansas alum Paris Peoples finished third in 1:29.23.
Earlier in the meet Maloney won the mile in 4:42.39 while Mackenzie Rogers placed eighth in 4:54.71. Olivia Pielemeier won another section of the mile in a career best of 4:52.45 to better her previous best of 4:56.20.
Razorback depth in the 400m was on display with a 1-2-3-4-5 finish, led by a meet record of 52.01 by Joanne Reid. That bettered the previous record of 52.10 set by Razorback Shawnti Jackson in 2024.
Behind Reid’s effort were Sanaira Butler with a 52.58 career best, then a 53.51 indoor debut for Kayla Davis which bettered her outdoor best of 53.55, while Aaliyah Pyatt (53.66) and Ashanti Denton (53.68) followed.
In the final event of the meet, the Razorbacks went 1-2 in the 4 x 400m relay with times of 3:30.58 and 3:31.28 over a 3:32.34 by Texas.
The winning Arkansas squad included Kayla Davis (53.62), Sanu Jallow-Lockhart (52.36), Aaliyah Pyatt (52.94), and Sanaria Butler (51.66). The runner-up crew consisted of Saira Prince (54.57), Analisse Batista (52.71), Ashanti Denton (51.81), and Anna Podojil (52.19).
Olympian Kaylyn Brown ran 23.03 for a victory in the 200m with Reid runner-up in 23.29 and Anya Jackson setting a career best 23.65 for third.
Jackson, a freshman, won the 60m final in a career best of 7.38 with teammates Ariane Linton (7.49) and Na’Taja Ballard (7.52) finishing second and fourth. Jackson led the prelim round with a then PR of 7.40 while Ballard posted a 7.47 PR.
Rachel Homoly won the pole vault with a 13-7.25 (4.15) clearance with teammate Skye Tolbert runner-up at 13-3.5 (4.05). Freshman Addison Richey tied teammate Hannah Estes for sixth place as both cleared 12-9.5 (3.90).
Tolbert later claimed the 60m hurdles in a career best of 8.38 seconds after posting a PR of 8.52 in the prelims. Two false starts knocked a pair of Razorbacks out of the final as Saira Prince, who posted an 8.36 PR in the prelims, and Simone Ballard, who ran 8.39 in the prelims, were both eliminated.
Newcomer Funminiyi Olajide won the long jump with a mark of 21-1.5 (6.44) that she registered twice in the first and fourth rounds. She now ranks No. 3 on the Arkansas all-time list.
Nia Robinson won the triple jump with a career best of 42-10.25 (13.06), which ranks No. 3 on the UA all-time list. She bettered her previous indoor best of 41-4.25 (12.60) as well as her outdoor best of 42-2.75 (12.87).
Robinson also finished runner-up to Olajide in the long jump with a 20-11.75 (6.39) effort.
Sydney Billington attempted her PR height of 6-0 (1.83) while placing second in the high jump with a clearance of 5-10.75 (1.80). Heidi Hudson placed third at 5-8.75 (1.75).
In the 1,000m, a 2:45.75 by Ainsley Erzen placed second to a 2:45.67 by Oklahoma State’s Kaylie Politza. Tiana LoStracco set a career best of 2:45.79 in third while Sorcha Shui placed sixth with a 2:49.93 in her debut.
Alum Krissy Gear established a meet record and career best of 2:00.67 in the 800m as she bettered the record of 2:02.79 set by Maloney in 2024. Isabella Whittaker’s first foray into the distance produced a time of 2:02.68 for fourth place and the No. 6 position on the UA all-time list.
