Schultz and Amer Perform in the 3-Meter Springboard at World Championships

Arkansas divers Brooke Schultz and Maha Amer continued their trip to Gwangju, Korea for the 2019 FINA World Championships, placing 29th and 42nd respectively in the 3-meter springboard competition.

Schultz’s first and last dives of the day were her best, scoring 63.00 points in each. After her first dive, Schultz ranked as high as fifth place, but struggled in the next three dives and dropping to 36th place. An impressive inward 2 ½ pike for her fifth and final dive would bump her up to 29th place, finishing with a total 241.45 points. Schultz was only one of 11 divers to score 63.00 points or better on multiple dives.

It marks the second time in her career that Schultz took a spot in the Top 30. The Fayetteville, Arkansas native finished 25th at the 2017 FINA World Championships in the same event.

Amer, who had already secured a 28th place finish in the 1-meter springboard competition earlier this week, completed her performance on the 3-meter springboard with a final score of 217.70 points. She struggled on her first dive, scoring 18.20 points and starting her session in 50th place. Amer regrouped and had back-to-back dives in which she scored 55 points or better to pull her up into 37th place. Her final dive came to the tune of 40.50 points, an inward 2 ½ tuck that gave her a 42nd place finish for the day.

Amer will compete once more, with Egyptian teammate Mohab Ishak as part of the Egyptian’s 3-meter mixed synchro team on Saturday.
