Simpson Takes Home Gold in 200 Freestyle at Iowa Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Razorbacks wrapped up day two of the Iowa Invite with strong performances in Friday evening’s finals.

The Hogs began the night with a 2nd-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, finishing with a time of 1:39.20. Three Razorbacks swam their way into the 100 Butterfly A-Final. Eleonora Camisa dropped her time by 0.56 and posted a 53.90 finish which was good for 2nd-place. Delaney Harrison followed Camisa with a 54.21 finish in 5th place. Bella Cothern finished 7th with a time of 55.03. Freshman Holly Robinson took 3rd in the 400 IM with a time of 4:15.30, an NCAA B-cut time, continuing a trend of strong performances in IM events.

Rebecca Simpson took home the gold in the 200 Freestyle, posting a blazing 1:47.16 finish. Sydney Craft was just over two seconds behind Simpson, posting a 1:49.61 finish in the A-Final. Bella Cothern also notched a 7th-place finish in 1:02.48 in the 100 Breaststroke A-Final, followed by Bradi Jones who finished 8th with a time of 1:02.56.

In the 100 Backstroke, Ashley Morton was the top Hog, posting a 55.78 and finishing 10th. Bara Matoskova finished 13th with a time of 56.52. In the dive tank, Maria Jose Sanchez and Lauren French competed in the 3-meter A-Final. Sanchez posted an impressive 3:45.45, finishing 3rd. French dove to a 298.75 mark and finished 5th. The Razorbacks rounded out the evening with a second-place finish in the 800 Freestyle Relay.

The Razorbacks will be back in action tomorrow morning for the third and final day of the Iowa Invite. Prelims will begin at 9:00am CST and can be streamed here.
