Sport and performance psychology are additional services we offer within the Mental Health & Performance office. Sport psychology focuses on helping athletes better understand what it means to be ready to compete. Mental readiness is a combination of optimal emotional activation, a positive frame of mind, and a performance-relevant focus.
Mental performance strategies are one way to gain a competitive advantage, and one’s mindset can be managed through proper use of psychological skills. These skills include:
- Biofeedback (Heart-Rate Variability)
- Energizing Techniques
- Coping Strategies
- Focus Strategies
- Managing Self-Talk | Positive Self-Talk
- Mindfulness
- Pre-performance Routines
- Relaxation Techniques
- Visualization | Imagery
The objective of these mental skills is to assist individuals and teams in performing at consistently high levels. We utilize individual and team-based interventions, including presentations, consultations (coaches, staff, and student-athletes), and workshops/educational outreach.
