
Taliyah Brooks currently fifth after World heptathlon first day
TOKYO – Arkansas alum Taliyah Brooks is currently in fifth place after the first day of the heptathlon at the World Athletics Championships, scoring 3,828 points in the four events contested on Friday at Japan National Stadium.
American Anna Hall is the day one leader with 4,154 points followed by Ireland’s Kate O’Connor (3,906) and Katarina Johnson-Thompson of Great Britain (3,893). Netherland’s Sofie Dokter (3,890) is in fourth place while Belgium’s Nafissatou Thiam (3,818) is sixth.
The heptathlon will continue on Saturday while the decathlon gets started for Arkansas alum Ayden Owens-Delerme.
Brooks had the leading time in the 100m hurdles as her 12.93 into a -0.7 wind produced 1,135 points. Beatrice Juskeviciute of Lithuania followed with a 13.03 for 1,120 points while Hall scored 1,117 with a 13.05.
A clearance of 5-9.75 (1.77) added 941 points to Brooks total. In the shot put, Brooks scored 789 points from a mark of 45-8 (13.92).
Closing out the first day of the heptathlon with the 200m, Brooks ran 24.18 to place seventh in the third heat and 11th overall to pick up 963 points.
