WATCH: Thiero Selected by Lakers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Adou Thiero was selected in the second round as the 36th overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers to become the 47th Razorback drafted in the NBA and the 62nd player under John Calipari to be drafted in Cal’s 32 years as a collegiate head coach.

This past season, Thiero had a career year with the Razorbacks, scoring 407 of his 634 career points, making 138 of his 213 career field goals, and making 120 of his 187 career free throws, while also dishing out 51 of his 87 career assists and securing 44 of his career 70 steals.

Thiero played his first two seasons at Kentucky prior to transferring to Arkansas for the 2024-25 campaign.

Thiero’s 2024-25 Highlights:

  • Played in 27 games with 26 starts, missed a total of nine games … Suffered a hyper extension to his left knee in the second half vs Missouri (Feb. 22) and missed eight of the final nine games, returning to play 5:22 in the Sweet 16
  • Despite missing those games, Thiero led the team in scoring (15.1 ppg and 407 pts), led the team in rebounding (5.8 rpg), led the team in steals (1.69), led the team in FG% (.545), led the team in FT made (120) and attempts (175), ranked second on the team in total steals (44), ranked third on the team in total rebounds (157) and ranked fourth on the team in both total blocks (20) and assists (51)
  • Led the team in scoring a team-best 11 times … Led the team in rebounding a team-best 12 times … Led the team in steals a second-best 9 times
  • In the rankings, was second in the SEC (46th NCAA) in FG% at .545, ninth in the SEC in FT attempts (despite missing 9 gms) at 175, 14th in the SEC in steals at 1.63 average, 15th in the SEC in FT made (despite missing 9 gms) at 120 and 16th in the SEC in scoring at 15.1 ppg … Is the 8th Razorback (9th time) to compile 400+ points, 150+ rebounds, 50+ assists, 40+ steals and 20+ blocks in a season and is the only one to do so in less than 34 games (played 27).

Draft notes:

  • Thiero is the 47th Razorback to be drafted, 11th second-rounder and the 21st-highest Razorback drafted.
  • Thiero is the third Razorback drafted by the Lakers, joining Patrick Beverley (2009; Los Angeles Lakers in the 2nd round, 42nd overall pick) and Walt Kearns (1953; Minneapolis Lakers in the 10th round, 87th overall pick).
  • Thiero is the eighth Razorback drafted in the NBA over the last seven years.
  • Thiero is the 62nd John Calipari-coached player to be drafted.
  • Thiero extends Calipari’s streak to 18 consecutive years of having at least one player drafted in the NBA.
  • Other notable Razorbacks to be selected in the second round of the NBA Draft include 2025 NBA Champions Isaiah Joe and Jaylin Williams, 2024 NBA Champion Jordan Walsh, 2024 NBA runner-up Daniel Gafford, 1990 NBA Champion Scott Hastings and three-time NBA All-Defensive Team pick Patrick Beverley.
