Thomas Selected SEC Freshman of the Week; Sets UA Record for 3PT% in SEC Games

FAYETTEVILLE – After a career-high, 30-point game to lead Arkansas to a big road win in the regular-season finale, Razorback Meleek Thomas was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

Thomas averaged 21.5 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 43.8% from the field, including an impressive 66.7% from 3-point, while shooting 90% from the line in wins over Texas at Missouri.

With his big week, Thomas finished the SEC season shooting 48.7% (38-of-78) from 3-point range to set a school record. The previous mark was 47.4% in SEC games by Rotnei Clarke (45-95) in 2011. (Note, heading into the season finale, Thomas was shooting 45.8% from deep (33-of-78) and was 4th on the school’s list for 3PT% in SEC games.)

Vs Texas:

  • Scored a “quite” 13 points in a game where Trevon Brazile and Darius Acuff Jr. each scored 28 points.
  • In the 20-point win, tied for the team lead with a +24 in 28 minutes played (he and Brazile were the only players with a +/- 20 or better).
  • Scored 10 of his 13 in the first half as the Hogs out-scored Texas by 22

At Missouri:

  • Playing without Darius Acuff Jr., Thomas picked up the slack by scoring a career-high 30 points while adding seven rebounds.
  • Made his first 5 3-pointers, finishing 5-of-6 for the game.
  • Scored 18 second-half points, going 5-of-10 from the field, 3-of-4 from 3-point and 5-of-6 at the line in the period. He made a jumper with 1:09 left to give Arkansas a 2-point lead. Then, with 31 seconds left, hit a free throw to tie the game and force overtime

Thomas and Acuff are the top-scoring freshman duo in the country. In fact, the Acuff-Thomas duo became the third freshman pair in Division I since 2019-20 with at least 450 points apiece. The others came last season, with Duke’s Cooper Flagg (709 points) and Kon Knueppel (563) combined to score 1,272 points, and Rutgers’ Dylan Harper (564) and Ace Bailey (527) combined to score 1,091 points. Acuff (666) and Thomas (476) have totaled 1,142 points.
