FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 1 Arkansas women’s track & field team will get a good preview of the NCAA indoor championships this weekend at home, competing against nationally-ranked powers from around the country Jan. 25-26 as they host the Razorback Invitational.
The talent-loaded meet will see the Hogs face off against SEC foes No. 6 Florida, No. 8 Kentucky, No. 9 LSU, and Mississippi State as well as out of conference competitors No. 10 Oregon, No. 28 Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and Purdue.
“We’re going to see the best teams in the United States head-to-head with very few exceptions,” said head coach Lance Harter. “In terms of an SEC preview, anytime you have LSU or Florida and now with Lonnie [Greene] being at Kentucky, it’s going to be very very competitive across the board. I think our middle-distance crew is ready to go, I think our sprint crew is DEFINITELY ready to go – we’re going to be in the hurdles now, we missed that last week to focus solely on the sprints – but from the 60-meters to the 5,000-meters we’re going to try to be competitive.”
The Razorback Invitational will be broadcast LIVE by the SEC network for the fourth consecutive year. The two-day event will kick off on Friday, Jan. 25 at 12:25 p.m. CT with the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles. Friday evening’s prime time events scheduled for 6 p.m. will get underway with the women’s distance medley relay and will be available for streaming on SEC network plus. Saturday’s live television window on the SEC network will begin at 1:03 p.m. CT with the women’s 400-meter invitational.
“It’s going to be a scored meet,” said Harter. “It’ll be a little inaccurate because a lot of the teams aren’t going to double or triple some their athletes. But it’s a great opportunity to get some great head-on-head competition.”
