Trio of wins from UA alums Brooks, Maloney, and Viljoen

FAYETTEVILLE – A trio of Razorback alums – Taliyah Brooks, Shafiqua Maloney and Carina Viljoen – claimed victories in the Trackwired Arkansas Grand Prix held Friday at John McDonnell Field.

Brooks won the 100m hurdles in 12.84 (1.4 wind) over Milan Young (13.25) after producing a windy 12.72 (2.4 wind) in the prelims. In addition, Brooks finished as runner-up in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 22-1.5 (6.74) that included a wind-legal 21-2.5 (6.46) in her series.

A season best of 2:01.99 earned an 800m victory for Maloney, who led the field throughout the race, splitting 58.67 at 400m. Honour Finley finished as runner-up in 2:02.52 with Taiya Shelby third in 2:03.32. Arkansas freshman Ainsley Erzen ran 2:10.66 to place sixth.

Viljoen clocked a winning time of 4:13.70 in the 1,500m over a field mixed with Arkansas alums and current Razorbacks. Logan Jolly followed in a career best of 4:16.73 with Katie McCune third in 4:20.41. Placing fourth and fifth were Stephanie Brown (4:23.11) and Claire McCune (4:23.23).

Tara Davis-Woodhall, who trains in Fayetteville, won the long jump with a leap of 22-11.25 (6.99) in the opening round. The series included marks of 21-10.25w (6.66), 22-10.75w (6.98), and 22-7.75 (6.90).

Paris Peoples led a trio of Razorbacks in the 400m, placing second in 51.40 behind a 51.28 from Bailey Lear. Joanne Reid posted a 51.89 to finish fifth overall while Amber Anning ran 52.74.

In the 200m a 23.07 (2.0) placed Razorback Rosey Effiong third behind a 22.72 for Cambrea Sturgis and a 22.92 from Mariah Ayers. Alum Jada Baylark finished third in the 100m with an 11.29.
