Weeks Early Contender For Top Award

NEW ORLEANS – About to embark on only her second indoor campaign as a Razorback, sophomore pole vaulter Lexi Weeks has been named to the 2017 Preseason Women’s Bowerman Award Watch List. The USTFCCCA announced the top 10 early contenders on Wednesday afternoon prior to the new year’s opening weekend of track and field competition.

The Bowerman emerged in 2009 as the top award in collegiate track and field presented annually to the most outstanding male and female athletes in the country. Past recipients of the trophy include Olympians and World championship medalists.

The first freshman woman to ever claim NCAA indoor and outdoor titles in the pole vault, Weeks’ star shined even brighter following the completion of the collegiate season. After an excellent performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials last June, she was rewarded with a spot on the national squad, moving on to become one of the youngest Olympians on Team USA this past summer in Rio.
