10 Things To Know – Oklahoma State
Arkansas continues its non-conference slate by traveling to Stillwater, Okla., for an 11 a.m. matchup at No. 16 Oklahoma State on Saturday. The game will be televised nationally on ABC.
1 – Separated by only a three-hour drive, Arkansas and Oklahoma State have met on the gridiron 46 times through the years but have not squared off since 1980. Entering this Saturday’s showdown in Stillwater, the Razorbacks boast a lopsided 30-15-1 (.663) overall record against the Cowboys. Arkansas took the last matchup over the Jimmy Johnson-led and Houston Nutt-quarterbacked Cowboys at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock on Sept. 20, 1980. Arkansas and Oklahoma State were members of the Southwest Conference together from 1915-1924.
2 – Arkansas is coming off a dominant 70-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the season-opener on Aug. 29. The Razorbacks became the only FBS or FCS team over the past 25 seasons to record a 70-plus point shutout while converting every third-down attempt in a game. The Hogs’ 70-point margin of victory was the largest since a 73-0 win over Rhodes College on Nov. 29, 1928.
3 – Under head coach Sam Pittman, the Hogs have started 2-0 three years in a row. With a win Saturday, Arkansas will improve to 2-0 for the fourth consecutive season for the first time since 1985-89, when the Hogs, led by former head coach Ken Hatfield, started 2-0 in five straight seasons.
4 – QB Taylen Green dazzled in his debut as the Razorbacks’ starting quarterback, accounting for four total touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) in the season-opening win over UAPB. Green became just the third Arkansas signal-caller since 1997 to pass and rush for multiple scores in a single game, logging his fourth career game with multiple passing and rushing touchdowns in the process. As a result of his efforts, Green received honorable mention recognition for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week for the fifth time in his career.
5 – WR Andrew Armstrong and Isaac TeSlaa are two of the most consistent receivers in the country. Armstrong’s 28-game reception streak is the longest by an SEC player and tied for the seventh-longest nationally. The preseason Biletnikoff Award Watch List selection has registered multiple receptions in 23 straight games. TeSlaa carries a 26-game reception streak into the matchup, dating back to his time at Hillsdale College. His 26 consecutive games with a reception are tied for the 15th– longest streak nationally and fourth-longest among SEC players.
6 – Saturday’s matchup will be the Razorbacks’ 44th game in program history televised on ABC and first since Sept. 13, 2014, when they defeated Texas Tech 49-28 in Lubbock, Texas.
7 – Arkansas has won 18 consecutive games when leading after the third quarter under Sam Pittman. The streak started on Sept. 11, 2021, during a 40-21 win over Texas at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Arkansas is 21-2 when leading after the third quarter under Pittman (2020-present).
8 – Saturday’s showdown in Stillwater against Oklahoma State is head coach Sam Pittman’s 50th game as head coach at Arkansas. Of those 50 games, 41 have come against an opponent from the SEC, a Power 5 foe and/or an opponent ranked in the AP Top 25 poll
9 – Seven of the Razorbacks’ 12 opponents in the 2024 season appeared in the AP preseason Top 25 poll. Arkansas has beat five ranked FBS teams under Pittman. Since his first season at the helm, 32 of Arkansas’ 45 FBS foes have either been ranked or received votes in the national polls.
10 – OL Fernando Carmona Jr. has been named Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week following his performance in the season-opening victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Carmona was an integral part of the Arkansas victory on Thursday night as the Razorbacks accumulated an astounding 687 yards of total offense, including 279 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. The Hogs’ 687 yards of total offense were the third most in a single game in program history while the eight rushing touchdowns nearly matched last season’s total of nine.
