10 Things to Know - South Carolina

No. 16 Arkansas (1-0) opens SEC play as it hosts South Carolina (1-0) at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 10. The game will air on ESPN.

10 Things to Know – South Carolina

1. – This year marks the first time since 1995 that Arkansas faces South Carolina in the month of September. This weekend’s matchup with the Gamecocks is the earliest the Hogs have opened SEC play at home since the 2012 season, when Arkansas hosted top-ranked Alabama on Sept. 15.

2. – QB KJ Jefferson once again displayed why he is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in college football in the Hogs’ season-opening win over Cincinnati. Jefferson completed 18-of-26 passes (69.2%) for 223 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 62 yards and a score – his fourth career game with at least one passing touchdown and at least one score on the ground. It was also his sixth career game with three or more passing touchdowns.

3. – RB Raheim “Rocket” Sanders, who burst onto scene as a true freshman in 2021, opened his sophomore campaign with a bang. The Rockledge, Fla., product logged his second career 100-yard rushing effort in the win over Cincinnati, running for 117 yards on 20 carries (5.8 avg) to finish as the Hogs’ leading rusher. Sanders was one of four Razorback ball carriers to rush for at least 500 yards in 2021 – a feat that had not been accomplished at Arkansas since 1975.

4. – TE Trey Knox delivered a career day in Arkansas’ season-opening win over Cincinnati, recording a team-leading six catches for a team-high 75 yards and a career-best two touchdowns. Knox, Arkansas’ most experienced returning pass catcher entering the 2022 season, has 61 receptions for 671 yards and six touchdowns in 34 career games. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., product shifted to tight end last season after beginning his collegiate career at wide receiver. Knox’s standout performance against the Bearcats also earned him the Mackey Award Tight End of the Week.

5. – LB Bumper Pool turned his 18th career double-digit tackle effort in the season opener, carding a team-high 13 tackles with one for loss. Pool, Arkansas’ leading tackler in 2021, has posted two consecutive seasons with 100+ total tackles and boasts the second-most tackles (333) among all FBS defenders since 2019. He has racked up 362 career tackles – good for eighth-most all-time at Arkansas.

6. – K Cam Little has connected on 21-of-25 career field goals tries and all 46 of his career point-after attempts. His career field goal percentage currently stands at 84.0%, which would rank first all-time in Arkansas’ program history (min. 20 made field goals).

7. – Since Barry Odom began as defensive coordinator in 2020, the Razorbacks have totaled 27 interceptions in 24 games. Arkansas tallied 13 interceptions in 10 games in 2020 and 13 interceptions in 13 games in 2021. DB Dwight McGlothern, a transfer from LSU, recorded the Hogs’ first interception of the 2022 campaign in the season opener against Cincinnati.

8. – Arkansas features four battle-tested veterans – redshirt senior Dalton Wagner, senior Ricky Stromberg, redshirt junior Brady Latham and redshirt junior Beaux Limmer – on its offensive line this season. The foursome has combined for 128 career games played with 103 career starts, the second-most combined career games started among SEC offensive lines in 2022.

9. – Since 2000, QB KJ Jefferson is one of six SEC quarterbacks to throw for 3+ touchdowns and rush for 3+ scores in a game: Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel (2012), Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott (2015), Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly (2015), LSU QB Joe Burrow (2018), Ole Miss QB Matt Corral (2021).

10. – Dwight McGlothern’s 51-yard interception return in the first quarter against Cincinnati is Arkansas’ 14th 50-plus yard interception return since 1997.
