10 Things To Know – UAB
Arkansas is back in action for the first time this season at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium for a 3:15 p.m. matchup with UAB on Saturday. The non-conference contest will be televised on SEC Network.
1 – Saturday marks just the second meeting between Arkansas and UAB. The Razorbacks lead the series 1-0 after defeating the Blazers 45-3 in Fayetteville on Oct. 25, 2014. UAB offensive coordinator Alex Mortensen was a backup quarterback at Arkansas from 2004-05 and 2008.
2 – Arkansas touts an all-time record of 106-22-2 (.823) in home openers in Fayetteville, including a 70-16 mark at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium since its opening in 1938. The Razorbacks have won their last three home openers in Fayetteville under head coach Sam Pittman and own a 19-5 record in DWRRS home openers since 2000.
3 – The Razorbacks currently rank second nationally in total offense, averaging 667.5 yards a contest. Under offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, Arkansas put up 600+ yards of total offense in each of its two contests this season. In the opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Aug. 29), the Razorbacks’ 687 yards were the third-most in a single game in program history. Arkansas followed up the performance with 648 yards at Oklahoma State (Sept 7) in week two, ranking 10th in program history.
4 – QB Taylen Green has completed 42-68 passes (61.8%) for 645 yards and three touchdowns this season. He currently ranks second nationally in total offense (397.0) and 10th nationally in passing yards per game (322.5). At Oklahoma State (Sept. 7), he threw for a career-high 416 yards, which marked the most by an Arkansas quarterback in a single game since Tyler Wilson threw for 419 against Rutgers on Sept. 22, 2012.
5 – RB Ja’Quinden Jackson leads the SEC and ranks third nationally in rushing touchdowns (5) and is 13th nationally in rushing yards (250). He also ranks third nationally and leads the SEC in points responsible for with 30. With 149 yards rushing, three rushing touchdowns and one catch for 13 yards at Oklahoma State (Sept. 7), Jackson became just the fourth Razorback since 1997 with 135+ rushing yards, 3+ rushing TD, 1+ receptions, 10+ receiving yards in a single game. He also was the first Razorback to rush for multiple touchdowns in consecutive games since Alex Collins did so in 2014 against Nicholls and Texas Tech.
6 – LB Xavian Sorey Jr. has emerged as the Hogs’ leading tackler through the first two games of the season, totaling a team-high 15 stops (eight solo) with a team-leading 3.0 tackles for loss, including 1.0 sacks. The Georgia transfer is one of four Arkansas defenders with a sack this season.
7 – WR Andrew Armstrong turned in a career game on the road at Oklahoma State (Sept. 7), recording career bests 10 catches for 164 yards in his first game with QB Taylen Green after sitting out Arkansas’ season opener against UAPB due to injury. Armstrong has caught a pass in 29 consecutive games and registered multiple receptions in 24 straight games since his 2021 season at Texas A&M-Commerce.
8 – Arkansas is 15-1 when winning the turnover battle in the Pittman era.
9 – Arkansas has won nine straight games when scoring 40+ points. Arkansas is 17-2 when scoring 40+ points under Sam Pittman.
10 – Since 2020 (Sam Pittman’s first year as head coach), the Hogs have totaled 48 interceptions in 50 games. Arkansas’ 48 interceptions are tied for fourth-most among all SEC teams during that span.
