Arkansas Inks Pair During Early Signing Period
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas men’s golf head coach Brad McMakin announced Tuesday afternoon that a local Fayetteville product in Kyle Robinson and Mansfield, Texas, native Landon Ernst have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Razorbacks for the 2017-18 season.
Landon Ernst – Mansfield, Texas – Mansfield HS
Ranked No. 92 in the class of 2017 by Golfweek.com, Ernst played on the Legends Junior Golf Tour in 2016, finishing runner up at the North Texas Classic and adding a top five finish at the Texas Cup Invitational. He also finished sixth at the Byron Nelson Junior Championship and the Bluebonnet Championship.
Ernst also added a fourth place showing at the Shell Houston Open Junior Championship and finished 12th at the Southern Junior Championship. During the Texas Junior Golf Tour, he added a fourth place finish at the Waterchase Junior Championship. Playing in the 2016 Class 6A High School Championship, Ernst finished in fourth place playing for Mansfield High School
“Landon finished third in the 5A Texas State Championship last year and hasn’t looked back,” McMakin said. “He continued his great play throughout the summer and this fall. To get a top player in the 2017 class out of Texas is great for our program I’m very excited about Landon being a Razorback!”
Kyle Robinson – Fayetteville, Ark. – Fayetteville HS
Ranked No. 118 in the class of 2017 by Golfweek.com, Robinson competed on the Legends Junior Golf Tour in 2016 and finished fifth at the Collegiate Preview and seventh at the Byron Nelson Junior Championship. He was a member of the 2016 Arkansas State High School Team Championship and was a 2016 U.S. Open local qualifier and U.S. Open sectional participant.
In the American Junior Golf Association, Robinson finished fifth at the Under Armour/Hunter Mahan Championship and 12th at the Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship. He was also a match play qualifier at the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and advanced to the round of 32.
“Kyle is the number one player in the state of Arkansas,” McMakin said. “Making it to match play and winning his first match in the US Junior this summer was a huge step for Kyle. Our program is very glad Kyle chose to stay at home to be a Razorback!”
