Arkansas MGolf Opens Spring Play

FAYETTEVILLE – The sixth-ranked Arkansas men’s golf program opens the spring portion of the 2020-21 schedule this weekend (Feb. 12-14) at the Gators Invitational, played in Gainesville, Fla., at the Mark Bostic Golf Course Club (par 70, 6,701 yards).

The 21-team field features 13 of the top 35 teams in the nation, including 10 of the top 16. In addition to #6 Arkansas, ranked teams include #1 Vanderbilt, #3 Georgia, #4 Tennessee, #8 Auburn, #9 Alabama, #11 Georgia Southern, #12 South Carolina, #15 Florida, #16 LSU, #21 Mississippi State, #34 Missouri and #35 Coastal Carolina.

The event will mark the return of William Buhl to the lineup. The fifth-year senior missed the fall season due to a back injury. Despite missing the last six months, Buhl is still 66th on the PGA TOUR University standings and 89th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Joining Buhl will be Julian Perico, coming in #8 in the Golf Stat national ranking, along with #35 Tyson Reeder, #54 Mason Overstreet, #55 Segundo Oliva Pinto and #78 Manuel Lozada, who will be playing as an individual.

“All six of these guys played great in our qualifier and Tyson won it,” said head coach Brad McMakin. “We have been really pleased with Buhl’s play coming off an injury. He is chomping at the bit to return to competitive golf. We had a really good fall and think we can have just as good, if not better spring.

“This field will be playing in the NCAA postseason. There are several teams not ranked right now only because they were not able to play in the fall. I would not be surprised if all these programs make it to the postseason this year.”
