Arkansas Set To Host Oklahoma, UMKC

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team is set to host another doubleheader Saturday against No. 18 Oklahoma and UMKC.

The matchups will be Arkansas’ fifth and sixth matches inside the friendly confines of the Dills Indoor Courts. The Razorbacks are in the midst of an eight match homestead that ends with South Carolina (March 1) and Florida (March 3) next weekend.

Owning a 7-1 record at home, Arkansas is hosting its second-consecutive ranked Big 12 foe in Oklahoma. The Razorbacks hosted sixth-ranked Texas last Sunday. Oklahoma features a 6-2 ranking, being 0-1 on the road. Sooner Spencer Papa is ranked #47 in the latest ITA Singles rankings, while Papa and Jake Van Emburgh are the #33 doubles duo in the rankings.

Razorbacks Oscar Mesquida and Adam Sanjurjo come in at No. 97 and No. 120, respectively in the rankings. Mesquida owns a 4-2 record since dual matches began in January with a 9-5 record overall since the fall, including a 3-3 record against nationally ranked opponents.

Sanjurjo owns a 3-3 record in dual matches, 9-7 overall while holding a 2-1 record against nationally ranked individuals. Leading the Razorbacks in singles action is Alex Reco, who holds a 7-2 record in dual play. Enrique Paya is next being 6-3, while Jose and Pedro Dominguez Alonso hold 5-3 records a piece as the Razorbacks as a team are 42-22 (.656) in singles action since January.

Arkansas has earned the doubles point in 7 of the 11 matches this season as the Razorbacks are an impressive 17-10 (.630) in dual doubles play. Newcomer Maxim Verboven and his partner Enrique Paya lead the team with a 6-3 record. Josh Howard-Tripp and Alex Reco own a 3-2 record, while Jose and Pedro Dominguez Alonso as well as Mesquida/Sanjurjo own two a piece.
