Arkansas to Play in NCAA Kingston Springs Regional
FAYETTEVILLE – Fresh off a runner-up finish at the 2021 SEC Championship, the Arkansas men’s golf program will be the fourth seed at the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional, played May 17-19 at the Golf Club of Tennessee – which is located just outside of Nashville.
Host Vanderbilt is the #3 seed and the 15-team field includes (listed by seed) Clemson, North Carolina State, Vandy, Arkansas, San Diego State, Virginia, Charlotte, Kent State, UTSA, Houston, Loyola (Md.), UConn and Iona.
“First, we are just happy to be competing in an NCAA Regional this year,” said head coach Brad McMakin. “We have an experienced and battle-tested group for the most part and our freshman (Manuel Lozada) is playing like a seasoned veteran right now. Even though we played one of the toughest schedules in college golf this past year, we cannot go into a Regional and think that will carry us through. Everyone is starting from scratch as of right now. With players getting extra years and the continual influx of talent worldwide, college golf is unbelievably competitive across the board. We, and really just about everyone, will absolutely have to play really good golf and catch a break or two in order to advance.”
The top five teams from each of the six NCAA Regionals – as well as the highest placing individual not on an advancing team – will go on to compete for the NCAA Championship, May 28-June 2 in Scottsdale, Ariz., at Grayhawk Golf Club – Raptor Course.
Arkansas is playing in its 27th NCAA Regional. Arkansas has been represented in all 31 NCAA Regionals since its inception in 1989, including four times (2000, 2001, 2006 and 2007) when just an individual qualified. The Razorbacks have competed as a team in each of the last 12 NCAA Regionals played.
The Razorbacks won the 1991 NCAA Central Regional and have five runner-up finishes to their credit. Overall, Arkansas has advanced from a Regional to the NCAA Championship 17 times – the last coming after a tie for fourth at the2018 Norman Regional. A Razorback has advanced to the NCAA’s four times from a Regional including 2017 national runner-up Mason Overstreet and Julian Perico in the last national championship held (2019).
