FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s cross country team travels to New York, N.Y. this weekend for the Iona Meet of Champions.

Hosted by the No. 8 ranked Gaels the Iona Meet of Champions boasts three top-20 nationally ranked teams in Arkansas (17), Iona (eight) and Wisconsin (four).

Additional teams set to compete at Van Cortlandt Park include the Buffalo, Drew, Felician, John Hopkins, NYU, Princeton, Ramapo, Richmond, Shawnee State, St. Francis Brooklyn, St. Joseph’s, Vermont, and Yale.

Arkansas sophomore Alex George was the top finisher for the Razorbacks at last year’s meet coming through as the second runner to the complete the 8K race. George was just one of four Razorbacks who finished in the top 10. Stanley Kebenei (third), Gabe Gonzalez (fourth) and Cale Wallace (10th) assisted Arkansas’ efforts in winning the team title.

The Razorbacks remain poised as one of the teams to watch this season as they return four of their scoring five from last year’s SEC championship team. Head coach Chris Bucknam also has a solid group of newcomers that have yet to showcase their abilities in 2013 Australian U18 Champion (800m, 1500m) Cameron Griffith, 2014 Missouri cross country state champion Stephen Mugeche and two-time NJCAA cross country All-American Frankline Tonui.

Freshman Graham Brown was the top finisher for Arkansas at the Cowboy Preview season opener in Stillwater, Okla. on Sept. 1.

Arkansas returns home for their next competition on Oct. 3 for the 27th annual Chile Pepper Festival on their home course of Agri Park.
