Arkansas Men's Golf Fact Sheet #1 - Minnesota

2009-10 EDITION OF RAZORBACK GOLF The 2009-10 edition of the Arkansas men’s golf team hits the links this weekend at the Fifth Annual Gopher Invitational hosted by Minnesota, Sunday and Monday. The Razorbacks are the NCAA runner-up from a year ago and return three student-athletes from that final weekend of play.
OLD AND NEW Arkansas returns six athletes from last year’s NCAA runner-up finish. Seniors David Lingmerth and Jamie Marshall along with sophomore Ethan Tracy return from that record-setting team along with redshirt freshmen Christoffer Arvidsson and Ty Spinella. Senior Dalton Owens is also back for his final season.
MORE ABOUT THE EVENT(from Minnesota Media Relations) The first and second round will be played consecutively on Sunday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Tee times for Monday’s final round will also begin at 8 a.m. The event is free to the public. The field features 12 teams from 10 different collegiate conferences. The Big Ten Conference has the biggest representation, as the host Minnesota Golden Gophers are joined by the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin. The Hawkeyes are making their second consecutive appearance in the Gopher Invitational while the Badgers are back for a third consecutive year. Wisconsin finished runner-up in the 2007 event. Southern Methodist University is making its fifth consecutive visit to the Gopher Invite while Lamar University is back after taking home the team title in 2007. Rounding out the field are Arkansas (second appearance), Notre Dame (fourth appearance) and UNC Wilmington (second appearance) along with Miami (Ohio), Northern Iowa, UNC Charlotte and UNC Greensboro – all of which are making their first trip to the Gopher Invitational.
ABOUT LAST YEAR’S GOPHER Arkansas competed at the Gopher Invitational last year finishing a season-low ninth overall. LSU and Texas tied for the title with 872 while Arkansas was 26-over with an 890. Returning senior David Lingmerth lead Arkansas with a tie for second place. Lingmerth shot a one-under 215 (74-70-71). A BUSY FALL The Razorbacks have five fall events on the schedule this year. After the Gopher Invitational, Arkansas travels to the Wolverine at Radrick Farms – a new event for this year’s schedule. Arkansas returns to the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, an event the Razorbacks won last year, and travel to the Jerry Pate National, another new venue for 2009-10. Arkansas wraps up the fall a the Baylor Invitational. This is also a repeat event from last year in which Arkansas finished fourth overall.
