Arkansas Women's Golf Fact Sheet #2 - Marilyn Smith/Sunflower Inv.

2009-10 EDITION OF RAZORBACK GOLF The Razorbacks have one event under their belts and are ready for number two taking part in the Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas State for the first time in program history.
MAKING THE TRIP Arkansas mixes up the lineup a bit from the first weekend of play. Junior Kelli Shean leads the way and continues to play well. Shean made the cut and finished tied for 27th at the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas LPGA Championship and was Arkansas’ leader in New Mexico last weekend. Seniors Kristin Ingram, Alex Schulte and Tiffany Phelps along with sophomore Katy Nugent also make the trip. Junior Corinna Rees was in the lineup last weekend and again travels this weekend as an individual.
MORE ABOUT THE EVENT This is Arkansas’ first-ever trip to Manhattan, Kan., for the Marilyn Smith/Sunflower Invitational. The event takes place at Colbert Hills Golf Course, a par 72, 6,157-yard course on the city limits.
2009 FIELD This year’s Sunflower Invitational field includes Arkansas, Creighton, Houston Baptist, Illinois State, Kansas, Kansas State, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, St. Johns, Tulsa, UMKC and Wichita State. There are two teams, Houston Baptist and St. John’s, that Arkansas has never faced before.
NEW THIS YEAR The Razorbacks welcome four newcomers to this year’s team. Freshmen Rachel Carpenter, Emma Lavy, Meagan Roberts and Victoria Vela all played well in the team qualifier and all had chances to make the cut for the first event. Stay tuned and see how they do.
THE REST OF THE SCHEDULE Arkansas follows up the Marilyn with a return trip to the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Classic in Knoxville, Tenn. The Razorbacks are making the program’s eighth appearance at this event. Arkansas wraps up the fall at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Course.
ABOUT SHAUNA ESTES-TAYLOR Head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor begins her third year with the Razorbacks. After five successful seasons as the Razorback assistant, Estes-Taylor had helped Arkansas to six consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and four NCAA Championship appearances. Assistant coach Mike Adams is also back for his third season with the Razorbacks.
