Brandon Allen Earns Preseason Recognition
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas senior Brandon Allen is one of 30 quarterbacks to be named to The Manning Award watch list, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced Thursday.
Allen becomes the eighth Razorback recognized by a major national college football award on a preseason watch list this season. He was also a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy earlier this month and ranked as the No. 22 draft-eligible quarterback by Phil Steele.
Entering his fifth season, Allen is the most experienced quarterback in the Southeastern Conference with 25 career starts, including the past 21 consecutive games. He passed for 2,285 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2014 while throwing just five interceptions, the fewest by a Razorback starting quarterback since 1992. He will begin the 2015 campaign with a streak of 90 consecutive pass attempts without an interception.
A product of Fayetteville, Allen is one of just three returning quarterbacks in the nation to pass for 20-plus touchdowns and five or fewer interceptions last season. He ranks second among returning SEC quarterbacks with 4,023 career passing yards and third with 34 career touchdown passes.
Allen enters 2015 within striking distance of a few school records. He already ranks sixth in program history in career touchdown passes and needs just 29 more to become the school’s all-time career leader. He is also 254 career completions and 377 career passing attempts away from setting school marks in those categories.
