
Brooks 2nd in heptathlon, 6 Razorbacks advance at USATF
EUGENE – The first day of the USATF Championships at Hayward Field had six Razorbacks advancing to the next round of their respective events while Arkansas alum Taliyah Brooks is currently in second place in the heptathlon.
Advancing to Saturday’s 3,000m steeplechase final were Krissy Gear and Logan Jolly as they competed in separate prelim heats on Thursday. Gear ran 9:30.75 to place fifth in the second heat while Jolly finished sixth in the first heat and advanced on time with a 9:38.68 that was 13th overall.
Brooks finished the first day of the heptathlon with 3,898 points and is currently in second place behind a score of 4,097 points for Anna Hall. Allie Jones is third with 3,662 points.
Starting the day with the 100m hurdles, Brooks posted the second fastest time with a 13.02 (-0.6 wind) behind a 12.95 by Michelle Atherley while Hall was third at 13.12. Brooks scored 1,121 points with the performance.
In the high jump, Brooks cleared 5-11.25 (1.81) for 991 points while Hall moved into the overall lead with a clearance of 6-2.75 (1.90) for 1,106 points. A shot put toss of 45-11 (14.00) earned Brooks 794 points.
Brooks finished the day with a 23.88 (1.4 wind) for 992 points in the 200m as Hall won in 23.56 and Jones also clocked 23.88.
NCAA champion Jordan Anthony and incoming Razorback Dapriest Hogans both ran in lane nine of the 100m prelims and advanced to the semifinal.
Anthony clocked 10.14 with an aiding 0.1 wind to place third in his heat and 10th overall. Hogans finished in 10.26 into a -1.0 wind to place fifth in the heat and 21st overall.
In the women’s 100m, Jada Mowatt posted a time of 11.11 (-1.5 wind) to place second in the heat and 13th overall to reach the semifinal.
Nikki Hiltz won a prelim heat of the 1,500m in 4:05.99, which was fifth best overall in advancing to Saturday’s final.
Reuben Reina ran 3:37.37 in the men’s 1,500m prelims while Austen Dalquist clocked 3:39.73. The final time qualifier to advance was 3:34.64.
Weaver scored 3,954 points on the first day of the decathlon and is currently in 10th place. Opening the day with an 11.35 in the 100m (784 points), Weaver followed with a 22-1.25 (6.75) long jump (755). A shot put effort of 46-6.25 (14.18) picked up 739 points.
Clearing 6-9.75 (2.08) in the high jump, Weaver collected 878 points and moved into 10th place overall. Closing out day 1 in the 400m, Weaver ran 50.37 from lane 1 for 798 points.
