Carmona Named Semifinalist for William V. Campbell Trophy
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame named Arkansas offensive lineman Fernando Carmona as a semifinalist for the 2025 William V. Campbell Trophy, the organization announced Wednesday.
The Campbell Trophy recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance, and exemplary leadership.
Carmona earned his degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in the spring of 2025 and is currently pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in Exploring Arts and Sciences. He was a First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll selection in 2025 and a two-time Mountain West All-Academic selection while at San Jose State. In addition to earning all-league academic honors, Carmona was also a 2025 NFF Hampshire Honor Society Member. On the field, he is a two-time SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week and was named Third-Team All-SEC by the league’s coaches in 2024. The Las Vegas, Nev., product has started 41 consecutive games along the offensive line dating back to 2022 while at San Jose State and has helped Arkansas register five straight games of 500-plus yards of total offense, which is a program record.
The National Football Foundation will announce 12-16 finalists on Oct. 22, and each of them will receive a $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2025 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to the Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 9. One member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 36th Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.
Carmona is one of 13 student-athletes from the SEC on the list of 177 semifinalists.
Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior who will complete his final year of eligibility in the 2025 season or graduate student or graduate transfer who has already earned a degree and participating in the 2025 season, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers, and athletics administrators.
This week, Arkansas returns home to Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium to close out the non-conference portion of its 2025 schedule against Notre Dame. Kickoff in the first meeting in history between the Razorbacks and Fighting Irish is 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, on ABC.
