
Chris Johnson earns 15th region Assistant Coach of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – Arkansas associate head coach Chris Johnson received the USTFCCCA South Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year honor for the fourth time outdoors as a Razorback.
This marks the 15th overall accolade for Johnson as region Assistant Coach of the Year. Previous outdoor honors with Arkansas include 2016, 2017, and 2019 as well as 2008 and 2010 while at Penn State.
Johnson has also claimed the indoor honor for the past three consecutive years, and a total of five times with the Razorbacks, and he had four consecutive indoor honors at Penn State.
The Arkansas head coach in waiting, Johnson will become the Razorback women’s head coach for the 2023-24 season this summer.
Johnson’s event group scored all 46 points Arkansas produced in placing third at the NCAA Outdoor meet. In winning the SEC team title, his event group supplied 59 of 134 points.
Ackera Nugent won the NCAA 100m hurdles in 12.25w, the fastest time ever by a collegian in all-conditions, completing a sweep of NCAA hurdle titles after winning the 60m hurdles indoors and setting a collegiate record in the semifinal.
Britton Wilson broke the 400m collegiate record three times outdoors, defended her SEC titles in the 400m and 400m hurdles while setting a world one day best in the pair of events.
Wilson was one of five Razorback entrants in the NCAA 400m, where Arkansas totaled 19 points from three finalists placing 2-3-4. It marked the fourth time one school has had three athletes score in the NCAA 400m final.
Arkansas finished the NCAA Outdoor meet with a victory in the 4 x 400m relay, completing a sweep after having won NCAA indoor with an all-time world best of 3:21.75 that remains the world leading time for 2023.
