Day Two From The U.S. Women's Open

This is the second in a series of diary entries from Arkansas head women’s golf coach Kelley Hester about her experience with Amanda McCurdy at the U.S. Women’s Open. The U.S. Women’s Open takes place June 29-July 2, at Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I. McCurdy, who completed her eligibility in May, is making her second consecutive U.S. Women’s Open appearance and Hester is caddying for her. Check back in the coming days to follow Amanda and Kelley’s experience. Tuesday, June 27, 2006Second Practice RoundUS Women’s OpenDay two brought similar conditions here in Newport. We started again off No. 1 at 12:50. The pairing included Jane Park, fellow Curtis Cupper from UCLA who beat Amanda in the finals of the 2004 US Amateur, another 16 year old, Taylore Karle from Scottsdale, Ariz., and pro Candie Kung. We only played nine holes today but practiced on the range for a while after the round. The course is drying out more and spectators were allowed today. The first tee was more daunting today with the grandstands full but Amanda piped her driver right down the pipe…pretty impressive. Drives were getting more run in the fairways today and the greens are picking up speed. Should make the course play more like a links course as the week goes on. Tomorrow we tee off the same time but off No. 10 and will just play nine again, probably followed by some putting and range work. Kelley
