Diamond Hogs return to the field

FAYETTEVILLE – The crack of the bat and the smell of leather surround Baum Stadium once again as the Arkansas baseball team began fall practice on Sunday afternoon.

NCAA rules allow the Razorbacks to practice at any time over the next 45 days as the Arkansas coaching staff takes a look at returning players as well as the newcomers in an evaluation process that will go well into February.

Arkansas’ fall baseball schedule culminates in an annual Red-White series at Baum Stadium where the coaches split the team into two squads to play three games. The dates for the Red-White series have not been set and are dependent on the weather.

Head coach Dave Van Horn welcomed more than 40 players to the locker room just a couple of weeks ago as he met with the squad for the first time to go over paperwork and expectations. The players filled out paperwork for the athletic training staff and media relations offices, met with the strength and conditioning personnel and were introduced to their academic counselors at that time. The full locker room two weeks ago translated into a full field as the Hogs packed foul territory with pitchers and had multiple players at every position.
