Diebold White Named to SEC All-Freshman Team

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. The Southeastern Conference announced its 2008 SEC Indoor Track and Field All-Freshman teams Wednesday, honoring the league’s top freshmen finishers in each individual event from the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. This is the first year for the All-Freshman Team.

Arkansas Lady Razorbacks Tara Diebold and Catherine White were both honored for their performances at the 2008 SEC Indoor Championships. Diebold in the pole vault and White in the 3,000 meters both finished second in their respective events.

Diebold earned a second-place finish in the pole vault, behind teammate Katie Stripling, with a clearance of 13-6.5. She was one of four Arkansas vaulters to score points for the Lady’Backs in the event.

In the 3,000 meters, White clocked a time of 9:32.01 to earn her second-place finish behind Tennessee’s Sarah Bowman. She paced two of her teammates to scoring spots in the event.

Tennessee and LSU led the way with three athletes named, followed by Arkansas and Florida with two. Alabama, Auburn and Kentucky each had one named to the list. Dual-event top finishers include Tennessee’s Jeneba Tarmoh (60m and 200m dash) and LSU’s Melissa Ogbourne (long jump, triple jump).

Arkansas track and field will open the outdoor season at Texas Relays, April 2-5, in Austin, Texas and at the Stanford Invitational, April 4-5, in Palo Alto, Calif.
