Doubles win for Perrotta and Roy

FT MYERS, Fla. — The Razorbacks women’s tennis team concluded the Florida Gulf Coast Invite in Ft. Myers, Fla on Monday after two Razorback sophomores were defeated in the finals of their respective flights in singles play. Fernanda Perotta and Stephanie Roy each were undefeated going in to their final matches, but fell short.

“Overall, the tournament was very beneficial for us at this early stage of the semester,” said assistant coach Patrick Sullivan. “Both Stephanie and Fernanda competed well and made solid progress.”

As the final day of matches began, Perotta went out to face Melanie Aguirre of UNF in the finals of flight six. She lost the first set 6-1, but came back and won the second set 6-7 in a tiebreaker. Battling hard, Perrotta eventually fell in the third set, 10-7.

In flight three, Roy fought hard in the first set, but lost 7-5. She ended up losing in straight sets in the second, 6-1.

The one bright spot on the day was the doubles match for Perotta and Roy as they took on Adna Curukovic and Olga Bazhanova of Northwestern State and won 8-6 to become the winner of the consolation bracket in flight one of doubles play.

The women’s tennis team will be back in action on Saturday, January 23, as they take on Oklahoma State and St. Louis in a double dual match at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
