Dust in the Wind
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of Arkansas sophomore Alex Schulte made her way to the 10th tee box leaning into the wind as the horn sounded suspending play at the 2008 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship in Albuquerque, N.M., Wednesday.
Play was suspended near the end of the first flight around 1:10 p.m. local time (2:10 p.m. central). Wind gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour prevented players from keeping golf balls on the tees and blew golf balls off the greens before play was halted.
Tournament officials are evaluating the situation to determine if play will resume Wednesday. The morning flight was nearly finished with its round but players were still on the course when play was stopped.
An alternate course of action for the remainder of the event has not yet been determined if play cannot resume. Check back to LADYBACKS.COM as the situation develops.
