Five Razorbacks Set for Super Bowl Sunday
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Five former members of the Arkansas football program will get a shot at NFL glory on Sunday, Feb. 3, in Atlanta, Georgia, as the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams battle in Super Bowl LIII at 5:30 p.m. on CBS.
Trey Flowers, Cody Hollister, Dan Skipper and Deatrich Wise are all members of the Patriots, while Brandon Allen will stand on the opposite sideline for the Rams. Heading into this weekend, 41 Razorbacks and their NFL teams have made the Super Bowl, including 30 players.
Flowers will be appearing in his third consecutive Super Bowl with the Pats at defensive end, matching Steve Atwater for the most by a Razorback player, who appeared in Super Bowls XXIV, XXXII & XXXIII. In 2016, Flowers recorded six tackles, including 2.5 sacks and five quarterback hits in the New England’s 34-28 victory over the Falcons. In doing so, he became the 25th Razorback to win the Super Bowl as a player on an active roster. In last year’s game, he had five tackles, one for loss, and two QB hits. Flowers has had a sack in each playoff game this year, with three combined tackles and four quarterback hits.
Wise is in his second season in the NFL on the defensive line, where he racked up four tackles, two sacks, and two QB hits in the 2017 playoff run with the Pats. He enters this year’s game with 30 tackles in 2018, 15 solo, to go with 4.5 sacks and 16 quarterback hits over 16 games played.
Hollister is in his second season with the Patriots after being signed to the practice squad in 2017. This is Skipper’s first year with New England and has spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos since his arrival to the league in 2017. The 2018 season marks Allen’s third in the NFL and second with the Rams, after being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
