Five wins for women's track at UCF

FAYETTEVILLE – In a slight change of plans, Arkansas Razorback women’s track and field competed at the University of Central Florida’s Black and Gold Challenge on Saturday, instead of the planned Walt Disney World Invitational.

The Razorbacks picked up event wins in the 400 meters, 800 meters, 400-meter hurdles, triple jump and 4×400-meter relay. Freshmen Martine Borge, Gwendolyn Flowers, Regina George, Caroline McCombs and Rachel Werner and juniors Edina Brooks and Shantel Thompson made their outdoor debuts for Arkansas this weekend.

Orley won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.83, finished seventh in the long jump with a mark of 16-6.5 and was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.00.

Thompson won the triple jump with a mark of 39-1.25 and finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17-11.75.

Borge won the 800 meters in a time of 2:16.35. She also ran the second leg of Arkansas "B" relay that included Flowers, Orley and sophomore Brittany Hyter. The quartet finished third in a time of 3:51.22.

George won the 400 meters with a clocking of 55.17. She also ran the second leg of the 4×100-meter relay that finished third with a time of 46.08. The quartet also included Brooks, senior Karen Thomas and sophomore Whitney Jones.

Arkansas’ "A" 4×400-meter relay won the event with a time of 3:42.27. The quartet included Brooks, Jones, George and Thomas. Also in the open 400 meters, Thomas finished second in 55.30 and Brooks was fourth in 55.61.

Hyter also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.92 and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.00. Her 100-meter hurdle time is a personal best.

Also in the long jump, Jones was second with a leap of 18-6.5. McCombs was sixth with her jump of 16-11.5.

Werner was 10th in the 100 meters (12.79), junior Shelise Williams was third in the 200 meters (24.06) and Flowers was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.72).

The Razorbacks will compete next at the Stanford Invitational, March 26-27, and the Razorback Spring Invitational, March 27 at John McDonnell Field.
