Four Hogs Receive Coaches’ All-SEC Recognition

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.– Led by a pair of second-team selections in wide receiver Andrew Armstrong and defensive end Landon Jackson, four Razorbacks received Coaches’ All-SEC honors, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Offensive lineman Fernando Carmona and linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. landed third-team honors, joining Armstrong and Jackson as Hogs to receive all-league recognition.

Armstrong is the first Razorback wide receiver to earn All-SEC honors since Treylon Burks in 2021. The Dallas, Texas product registered a team-high 78 receptions for 1,140 yards and a touchdown during the 2024. Armstrong, who began his career at East Texas A&M (formerly known as Texas A&M-Commerce) led the league and ranked in the top 10 nationally in receiving yards (7th), receiving yards per game (103.6, 4th), and receptions per game (7.1, 9th). Armstrong ranked second all-time on the Arkansas single-season receiving yardage list and single-season reception list while finishing the season with a 39-game reception streak which ranked first among all SEC pass catchers and sixth nationally. His five 100+ yard receiving games in 2024 were the most since Treylon Burks had six in 2021.

Jackson, who earned all-league recognition for the second-consecutive season, logged 49 total tackles, including a team-high 9.5 for loss and 6.5 sacks in addition to nine quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal. The Texarkana, Texas product became the first Razorback to lead the team in tackles for loss and sacks in consecutive seasons since Wayne Martin did so from 1986-88. He is the first Hog to lead Arkansas in sacks in consecutive regular seasons since Chris Smith accomplished the feat in 2012-13. He logged a four-game sack streak from Oct. 26-Nov. 23, becoming the first Hog to register 1.0+ sacks in four consecutive games since Deatrich Wise Jr. in 2015. Jackson finished his career as the only Razorback since 1997 to register 8+ total tackles, 3+ tackles for loss and 2+ sacks in multiple games, having accomplished the achievement twice.

Carmona made an immediate impact during his first season on The Hill while paving the way for 5,414 yards on total offense, including 3,230 passing yards and 2,184 rushing yards. The San Jose State transfer started all 12 games on an offensive unit that ranked 13th nationally in total offense per game (451.2) and 21st nationally in passing offense per game (269.2). Carmona earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors twice during the regular season following wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Sept. 2) and No.4 Tennessee (Oct. 7). The Las Vegas native blocked for 673 yards of total offense (314 passing, 359 rushing) while not allowing a single sack, during the Razorbacks’ dominant 58-25 win over Mississippi State (Oct. 26) and was part of an offensive line that helped garner 687 yards in a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Aug. 29) and 648 yards of total offense at Oklahoma State (Sept. 7). Carmona is the first Razorback offensive tackle to earn All-SEC recognition from the league’s coaches since Dan Skipper in 2016.

Sorey Jr. led the Razorbacks with 89 total tackles in addition to posting nine tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries, two sacks, an interception and a pass breakup. The Georgia transfer led or tied for the single-game team-high in tackles during four games in 2024 (Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss), while his 13-tackle performances against Oklahoma State and Ole Miss were the most by a Hog in a single game this season. During a 58-25 win at Mississippi State (Oct. 26), Sorey became just the second Arkansas linebacker in the past 25 years to register 10+ tackles, an interception, a quarterback hurry, and a pass breakup in a single game. His 7.4 tackles per game ranked sixth among all SEC defenders.

The Razorbacks will make their 45th bowl appearance and wrap up the 2024 season by taking on Texas Tech in the Autozone Liberty Bowl on Dec. 27 at 6 p.m. on ESPN inside Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
