Four named academic all-district

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas Razorbacks Denise Bargiachi, Tara Diebold, Katie Stripling and Catherine White, members of the women’s track and field team, have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women’s track and field and cross country team. Student-athletes on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team advance to the national ballot.

First-team honorees include Bargiachi, Diebold and Stripling. White was named to the second team. Bargiachi and Stripling are being honored for the second time in their careers. As current sophomores, 2009 marked the first season Diebold and White were eligible for the award.

Bargiachi holds a GPA of 3.73 as a journalism major, Diebold a 4.0 in communications disorders, Stripling a 3.94 in kinesiology and White a 3.75 as a food science major.

Bargiachi in the 5,000 meters and White in the 10,000 meters will compete in the distance events at the NCAA Championships next week. Diebold and Stripling are two of the four Arkansas vaulters that qualified for the NCAA Championships.

The University of Arkansas and the Razorback Athletic Department will host the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday-Saturday, June 10-13 at John McDonnell Field.
