Green Named to Davey O’Brien Award Watch List
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas redshirt senior signal caller Taylen Green is one of the nation’s top 35 quarterbacks named to the preseason watch list for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced Thursday.
Compiled by a subset of the Davey O’Brien National Selection Committee, this year’s preseason watch list was selected based on career player performance and expectations heading into the 2025 college football season. All nominees are required to have previously started at least one game at an NCAA Division I institution.
The Lewisville, Texas native looks to build upon an impressive 2024 campaign that saw him accumulate 3,756 (602 rushing, 3,154 passing, 23 TD) yards of total offense, good for the second-most in a single season in program history behind only Ryan Mallett’s school-record mark of 3,795 while recording just the seventh 3,000-yard passing season in program history. He finished the 2024 season ranked 13th nationally in total offense per game (288.9), 14th nationally in passing yards per completion (13.71) and 21st nationally in total passing yards (3,154).
Green was named Liberty Bowl MVP after completing 11-21 passes for an Arkansas bowl record 341 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown in a 39-26 win over Texas Tech, becoming the first Arkansas passer to eclipse the 300-yard mark in a bowl game since 2016. Green threw for over 300 yards in three games during the 2024 season, highlighted by a career-high 416 yards at Oklahoma State on Sept. 7.
Entering the 2025 season, Green and Oklahoma’s John Mateer are the only returning quarterbacks nationally to pass for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 600 yards in 2024. Green is also one of 10 FBS quarterbacks entering the 2025 season who have thrown for 4,000+ yards and rushed for 1,000+ yards in their FBS career. His 8,576 combined career passing and rushing yards rank third nationally and lead all FBS players with five or fewer seasons of eligibility entering the 2025 season.
The honor was one of many entering the 2025 season for Green. He was previously selected to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List on July 28.
The official Davey O’Brien Midseason Watch List will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 21, and will contain active quarterbacks from the Preseason Watch List, players honored as weekly Great 8 recipients through the season’s first eight weeks, and any additional quarterbacks approved by the selection subcommittee.
The 35-player Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2025 will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 28. For the fifth straight year, fan voting on social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) will earn players bonus selection committee votes during the semifinalist, finalist and winner voting rounds. First-round fan voting will begin Oct. 28 following the QB Class announcement.
The list of semifinalists selected from the QB Class will be named on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later (Tuesday, Nov. 25). The 2025 Davey O’Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 11, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
