Green Named to Maxwell Award Watch List

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas redshirt senior quarterback Taylen Green was one of 80 players selected to the initial watch list for the 89th Maxwell Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday.

The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, who was a former standout at Swarthmore College and a renowned sportswriter and football official.

Green was one of nine SEC quarterbacks to be included on the list. He is the second quarterback under head coach Sam Pittman to appear on the list, joining KJ Jefferson (2022, 2023).

The Lewisville, Texas native looks to build upon an impressive 2024 campaign that saw him accumulate 3,756 (602 rushing, 3,154 passing, 23 TD) yards of total offense, good for the second-most in a single season in program history behind only Ryan Mallett’s school-record mark of 3,795 while recording just the seventh 3,000-yard passing season in program history. He finished the 2024 season ranked 13th nationally in total offense per game (288.9), 14th nationally in passing yards per completion (13.71) and 21st nationally in total passing yards (3,154).

Green was named Liberty Bowl MVP after completing 11-21 passes for an Arkansas bowl record 341 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown in a 39-26 win over Texas Tech, becoming the first Arkansas passer to eclipse the 300-yard mark in a bowl game since 2016. Green threw for over 300 yards in three games during the 2024 season, highlighted by a career-high 416 yards at Oklahoma State on Sept. 7.

Entering the 2025 season, Green and Oklahoma’s John Mateer are the only returning quarterbacks nationally to pass for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 600 yards in 2024. Green is also one of 10 FBS quarterbacks entering the 2025 season who have thrown for 4,000+ yards and rushed for 1,000+ yards in their FBS career. His 8,576 combined career passing and rushing yards rank third nationally and lead all FBS players with five or fewer seasons of eligibility entering the 2025 season.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on Nov. 11, 2025, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled on Nov. 25, 2025. The winner of the 89th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 11, 2025. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on Friday, March 13, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia.
