Gym'Backs elect team captains

FAYETTEVILLE — In keeping with the Vote 2004 spirit the University of Arkansas gymnastics team held elections of their own selecting juniors Hannah McLeod and Dana McQuillin as team captains. McQuillin begins her third term in office after first accepting her captain’s position as a freshman on the inaugural team in 2003. She was again elected last year. McLeod was also a 2003 captain along with Brooke Lawrence. McLeod surrendered her seat in 2004 to then-sophomore Kim Harris but returns to the leadership forefront again this season. "Hannah and Dana have continued to show strong leadership skills and are great examples in and out of the gym," said co-head coach Rene Cook. "We’ve been talking about the elections a lot as a team and its been amazing to see the interest they have shown in what’s going on around them. We’ve had some great discussions about several issues and I’ve been interested in their opinions. "Their selection of both Hannah and Dana are good ones and we look forward to seeing where they will help take this program this season." McQuillin emerged last year as a team leader in the gym winning four all-around titles and earning Arkansas’ first-ever Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week honor. McQuillin also captured two beam titles and one each on bars and floor last year. McLeod was also a tireless competitor improving each of her personal bests with a 9.80 in vault, a 9.850 on bars and a 9.875 on beam. The 2005 edition of the Gym’Backs welcomes fans for the Gym’Back Gala Jan. 2, followed by three consecutive road meets. Arkansas opens the home schedule hosting national powerhouse Georgia Jan. 28.
